FishDelta

Let's get the preliminaries out of the way quickly:

Yes, it's paradoxically bizarre and commonplace to see a fish specializing in assisting those who head into the water with rod, reel, and hook. The fish at the helm, with his sunglasses and his fisherman's hat, has clearly undergone a severe personality disintegration.

Posed as he is, fin shielding his eyes as he searches for the finest fishing spots, he is nearing his own rock-bottom. That he should make a career as a fishing guide… Horrible and disheartening.

But it's nothing we haven't seen hundreds upon hundreds of times.

So let's look closer. All the way to the yellow Christian fish on his shoulder and the story of the loaves and fishes.

Our fish/guide identifies with a symbol that depicts his kind as food. While he might be a fish of great and abiding faith, nonetheless he finds communion with the Eternal only by means of his own consumption.

The fishdelta fish achieves his highest meaning, his truest self, by his scriptural link to creatures who glorified the sacred only by being eaten. His edibility is his salvation. Now that's paradoxical.
